Is a future magnetic event described in the Bible?

Whereas the behavior of bodies at extremely high or low temperature may be observed either in a laboratory or in Space, the characteristics of materials under extreme pressure are not so easily studied. Synthetic diamond is manufactured at a pressure of roughly 70 thousand atmospheres: pressure at the center of a relatively small body such as the earth probably exceeds 3 million atmospheres. Even if a pressure of 3 million atmospheres could be achieved in a laboratory, it could not be sustained in a significant quantity of matter for a meaningful period of time. Thus, the solar system cannot be fully simulated in a laboratory.

This in turn leads to the conclusion that a theory of planetary magnetism relying upon something akin to superconductivity cannot be fully laboratory tested. Not every theory enjoys insulation from the searchlight of hard laboratory fact! Not every theory is so cosseted! But assuredly there will be ways of testing this hypothesis. The proposal of superconductivity or something akin to it may well prove to be misguided. The apology for suggesting it? – for one, the current difficulty in explaining planetary magnetism in simple terms. Einstein himself is reported as having been puzzled. Long computer hours by some committed scientists have recently advanced the cause – but, intuitively, should it require long hours with the world’s best computers to begin to explain something as straightforward as electricity in the accumulation of rocks and minerals upon which we stand?

By assuming something akin to superconductivity – change in electrical properties – inside large bodies, can we better comprehend the electro-magnetic properties of the planets?

Superconductivity was a surprise. Without laboratory proof, few, if any, would have believed it possible. The truth is indeed stranger than fiction. Below a certain temperature – and, in the case of some substances, above a certain pressure and below a certain temperature –the nature of matter changes. Electro-magnetic properties change. That 20th Century discovery made ripples in the pond of human understanding. There are major ramifications.

What if there is a relationship between temperature, pressure, and transformation to different electrical properties, as we go deeper inside large bodies? If pressure was to gain sufficient ascendancy over temperature, composition was suitable and magnetic environment was suitable, could the electrical conduction properties of layers within planets radically change? Iron, the element believed to be at the core of the earth, does not rank amongst useful superconductors – but could sufficient pressure tip the balances?

We can’t get down there to find out.

We do know that if a large part of the earth or of any other planet was currently functioning at capacity as an unfettered, unlimited superconductor, the magnetic fields would be much stronger than those currently observed. So if superconduction occurs, it is either on a small scale, the superconducting materials are of a mix that limits current flow, the available current is limited, or the electrical circuits are countering each other in their overall magnetic effect.

What is superconduction? The name implies conduction over and above the normal, the everyday. Currently it is only known to occur at extremely low temperatures, and is classified as a quantum process. It occurs when external factors modify the internal character of matter at the atomic level.

The basic unit of all matter is the atom. Atoms are solid matter, yet they are not solid matter! They are a sort of organized, electrical- come- magnetic- come- goodness- knows- what- else entity that is energy whilst it is matter. At this level, substance has as much to do with frequency as it has to do with mass and velocity. Biblically literate persons will understand as a matter of course – every physical substance is existing now because it is the product of a living, vibrant Word. Matter is nothing more than a communication of the Power who upholds all things. Therefore it will be essentially communicable – an impartation of vibrant frequency, an intelligent expression put into effect. The atom is both solid matter and pure energy – and it is not wanting in design!

Just as an electrical event in a conducting antenna can produce a tangible effect in a radio receiver hundreds of kilometers away, so the nature of matter itself has to do with invisible forces that produce real outcomes. To achieve these outcomes, energy-wave frequencies and particle speeds have been designed and set to maintain the integrity of matter itself. The components of the atom are quanta – specified amounts – like gears always spinning at the correct speed with the correct teeth, they are designed to automatically fit and function in their varied atomic settings.

The energy-wave- come particle known as the electron moves tirelessly within an atom, sometimes at speeds approaching the speed of light. It never tires, yet it is never seen to receive any input of energy to sustain it. An electron is a particle, whist it is an electro-magnetic entity. Electric current is the flow of electrons. In an insulator, the layout of the atoms prohibits the electrons from migrating. In a conventional conductor, the atoms are designed to permit electron transfer, which encounters some resistance. This necessitates a pushing force or electric generator to overcome the resistance. In a conventional circuit with sufficient electromotive force the speed at which the electric current moves can approach the speed of light. However, we need not imagine that this means that individual electrons are moving from one end of the circuit to another, at close to the speed of light.

Matter and phenomena such as electricity exist because of unchanging constants – discrete unchanging quantities – quanta – and the speed of light is one such constant.

When an object gains superconductor status, it is as though the whole object becomes one atom, in terms of the resistance to electron migration. Impedance to electron flow almost or even entirely ceases.

Using another analogy – in a conventional conductor, the migrating electrons are like an army out of step. When an external variable such as temperature is altered to change the atomic behavior of the conductor, triggering superconduction, the electron army marches in step.

This area of physics gives investigators a surprise every other month.

When the whole army moves in step, a separate division over on the other side of a mountain range is just as likely to do something “sympathetic”, if not synergetic. The remote division might be found to mysteriously be in step, in half-step, or perhaps doing cartwheels, in time with the main army.

Physics is now looking at teleportation of matter as a theoretical possibility.

Superconduction is an effect that, to all appearances, produces strong but common garden-variety electric currents and common garden-variety magnetic fields. What we don’t see – and presumably it is going to go on giving physicists surprises – are the bizarre, synergetic, side-effects in other substances in other settings.

Radio is an electro-magnetic process that produced remarkable results, over great distances. Here is something vaguely similar, although deeper and more obscure. Matter is partly electro-magnetic, and superconduction is an atomic electromagnetic event involving sufficient atoms at once to make it a significant aspect of nature. Every element can conceivably react in a unique way to such events.

The holy Scriptures matter-of-factly mention some miraculous events that were nevertheless a part of nature. One that springs to mind is temporary opaqueness of air over a specific part of Egypt approximately 3,500 years ago. It happens that oxygen is the only common gas that is strongly magnetic. The behavior of air under the influence of large-scale quantum- magnetic affects such as might conceivably be associated with sudden changes in superconducting circuit(s) underground, in synchronization with radio-type solar emissions, cannot be fully tested. The sun standing still raises even more mystifying issues, but it seems impossible to safely stop a planet spinning other than through magnetic field interactions? These would be pointless questions were it not that the same Book that tells us to wash, but does not investigate bacteria, tells us of some sort of a future recurrence of atmospheric events, without mentioning atomic Physics.

What is the existing wisdom regarding the magnetism of planets?

The wisdom that has been publicized recently is predicated upon mechanical forces driving some sort of electric generators, utilizing conventional conductors. This power generation produces electromagnets that sustain the existing magnetic fields.

A mechanical electric generator involves the movement of a conductor in a magnetic field. Generation inside planets is believed to involve streams of conductive rock or metal driven by heat-convection. These are given speeds from less than that of a lame snail, to a leisurely tortoise, depending upon estimated viscosities at the particular depth in the earth where they are moving. Since continents have actually been measured travelling at one or two centimeters per year, driven by convection, the very slow snail has that field. Most electrical generation is believed to take place in the iron-rich core, the outer region of which is fluid. In this least viscous region, the tortoise may be king?

Streams of conducting materials are the moving conductors, driven by heat from within the earth. If power generation is to occur, this movement must be within some sort of magnetic field. What initiates a magnetic field?

Initially, take your pick – probably the magnetic effects of stars or the infant sun. Once the dynamo is operational, the magnetism produced by the generator provides the magnetism. The consensus – that’s not perpetual motion, it’s not darwinistic self-creation, it is possible. The steady movement of conducting streams, continuously cutting magnetic lines of force that exist courtesy of the same mechanical movement cutting lines of force, could give an ongoing dynamo effect. As the lines of magnetism progress and regress with various planetary changes, the magnetic field strength and orientation likewise flow and fluctuate.

What becomes of this model if it shuts down for a period and loses the strength in its self-generating lines of magnetic force? Questions of long-term stability will call for convincing answers – and perhaps there are answers. At least it is now known that a mixture of metals, rock, heat and a primer magnetic field can theoretically result in some sort of an electric generator, perhaps ongoing. This dynamo mechanism presumably comes into operation within bodies such as the earth whenever conditions are favorable. It may well be the major factor in planetary magnetism?

It would be reassuring to know that a scale model of this magnetically self-sustaining generator was successfully functioning somewhere in a laboratory. Efforts are being made in that direction – of course under the severe handicap of too little temperature and too little pressure.

The world’s biggest computers could never have quite solved a geocentric solar system. Likewise almost every other conundrum man has faced in his understanding of nature – blood circulation, disease, heredity, the atom – even Archimedes’ evaluation of the king’s crown. Again and again in science some outbreak of simplicity has permitted the puzzle to fall into place. The Creator’s works are always profoundly simple. They are then seen to be simply profound. A layman can always come to terms with them and the world’s greatest minds never can quite fully comprehend them.

Our magnetic field may require hours of labor with powerful computers, but somewhere there should be a way of easy understanding for the sort of computer this world was designed for – the human mind.

Can we find a way to give this dynamo an anchor and remove any suspicion of perpetual motion?

The earth’s magnetic field has certainly existed for hundreds, if not thousands, of millions of years, during which incomprehensible time without dispute it has done everything from falling to 10% or perhaps zero current strength to temporarily having multiple poles like a molting porcupine. It has reversed more times than anyone would care to count, yet has gone for protracted periods without reversal. If the information extracted from the rocks has been correctly interpreted, it has kicked, jerked, attempted reversal, reversed abruptly and reversed as part of a recognizable, repeated, leisurely cycle. Yet it has always revived, and its full strength has not lessened over time. It is not inconceivable that, on the whole, it has strengthened over time. Can all these events be laboratory simulated, relying upon only some spinning rock and metal, some heat, and one primer magnetic field? Whatever the answer, is there any damage incurred by giving the subject more attention?

It is safe to speculate where information is scarce. Only two items of information are needed to establish a trend. Three items can lead to complications! Information regarding the solar system is scarce. It could be scarcer – at least there are seven other major planets and scores of moons and moon-like bodies available for perusal. Why were all those bodies placed there? We could get by with Jupiter alone. Jupiter is helpful because it takes in space debris that might otherwise strike the earth. Perhaps the other planets were put in their places as case studies – mobile instruction manuals?

The solar system tells a story. It hasn’t yet been told.

There are but three planets – Mercury, Venus, and Mars – similar to Earth. Of these, only Mercury is currently intrinsically magnetic – roughly 1% Earth field and perhaps a similar orientation? Mars retains some traces but has no intrinsic field. Then there is our moon and various other moons not entirely dissimilar to it. Our moon probably once had its own field. Its rocks were strongly magnetized at some time. At least one of Jupiter’s moons currently has intrinsic magnetism, and another has a field which is probably a temporary by-product of Jupiter’s strong electromagnetic output.

Gas giants Jupiter and Saturn presumably generate magnetic fields through physical and chemical processes somewhat distinct from those occurring in the earth, and ice giants Uranus and Neptune have limited internal similarities to our own planet. If we exclude the powerful and all-pervasive sun, the Earth has the fifth largest field in the system, but is, arguably, second only to Jupiter and Saturn in terms of centralised strength. Earth’s and probably Mercury’s magnetic poles are broadly aligned with their geographic poles; Jupiter’s and Saturn’s are likewise but are reversed; Uranus’ and Neptune’s magnetic poles are somewhere near midway between their geographic poles and their equators.

Venus and Mars perhaps once possessed fields. Shades of a possible past field have been detected on Mars, whilst Venus has a relatively fresh lava surface that would have destroyed remnant magnetism.

From the unassailable fortress of having almost no facts, with more facts expensive to gather: a trend! Long-term sustenance of planetary magnetic fields is assisted by having sizeable orbiting partner(s). Fields so generated tend to stand perpendicular to the planes in which the orbiting partners lie. For this to be a trend, we need to regard the sun as an orbiting partner of all planets, especially Mercury, which moves fast and relatively close to that body. Its effect upon slower and more distant Venus and Mars is insufficient to sustain fields in those bodies; in the earth’s case, the proportionately largest moon in the solar system tips the balances. Uranus’ and Neptune’s moons’ orbits are highly inclined to the plane in which the sun lies, and their magnetic poles are irregularly oriented. The purpose of seeking such trends is to try to find why electromagnets form and, more significantly, endure, inside many planets. Perhaps internal tidal effects generate heat and even electricity? The paths of electrical flow thus engendered tend to lie in the same plane as the tidal flexing. Thus, although planets are spherical, the electromagnets tend to be straight, standing perpendicular to gravitational stress within the body of the planet.

Mercury is only the order of four times larger than our moon. It has likely been around more than 4 thousand million years. A century is a long time; a millennium is barely comprehensible: a million years is eternity. Worse; in that time, Mercury lost half its rock mantle. Iron cores can’t retain heat and fluidity forever. Mercury’s field might be easier to account for if there was an ongoing input of energy? For that matter, could the earth have been powering a strong field all this time without external input? Experts say, Yes; although if we didn’t have a field, they could equally say, No. In the case of Venus and Mars, the answer has been decided. Thus it is possible, if not likely, that our moon is partly responsible for continental drift, magnetism, and other modern essentials. In Mercury, a faint magnetic field is sustained through activation of conducting elements within it, largely through rapid transit of that body in a strong gravitational field. Tantalizingly, Mars was once more magnetically active – and it does have two satellites, miniscule though they be.

Precisely how are those conducting elements activated?

We could speculate, and then, we could speculate. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars and the Moon are magnetic minefields. The suggestion made here is that gravitational forces come into play. When Mercury and then the Moon came up magnetic, there was a heavy outbreak of perplexity. The earth has a field. Venus is almost the size and composition of the earth – no field. Mars is 1/10th the size of the earth, and compositionally similar – remnants of an old field. Mercury is smaller still, with a higher proportion of iron core – a small field. The Moon is 1/81st Earth mass, a tiny iron core if it has one – an extinct field possible.

Let us assume that planets and perhaps iron or iron alloys in particular have been designed so that under a particular pressure-temperature regime (perhaps when pressure is relatively much higher than temperature) their atomic organization transforms something after the manner of a superconductor. Assume also that a peculiar property of this transformed substance is electrical generation through the influence of regular gravitational flexing – a sort of peizo-electric effect.

This is probably completely wide of the mark, but will it answer any questions?

Thorough observation of some Northern Hemisphere insects and animals shows they prepare for the coming winter according to the severity of the coming winter. It may be easier to account for the sun standing still, than to explain how insects can predict a coming temperature? Even if such phenomena have a ready explanation, there are a thousand more phenomena of nature waiting to take their places. Magnetism, as a last resort, might perhaps present a way of affecting the spin of a planet without wrecking it? And if there is an electromagnetic effect operational in the atmosphere, capable of interaction with gases in the atmosphere and with living things – there is a link, if nothing better presents, between weather and living things. Shall we skip the question of how a magnetic field could govern temperature? (The weather is a mystery – You have as good a chance of predicting next week’s, leave alone next centuries’, weather, as all the “experts” on this globe – irrespective of how much “greenhouse gas” is produced in the interim. There is a way in which weather patterns and rain can be controlled, and remarkable instances of predicted aberrations in weather are recorded in Scripture. Could there be a quantum electo-magnetic link between magnetic fields and the behavior of (magnetic) oxygen in air and water vapor? At least one bible verse points to this possibility – Job 38:24. By what way is the light parted [a reference to magnetism?] which scattereth the east wind upon the earth? Supporting this, sunspot activity has been linked to our climate, and sunspots are a magnetic phenomenon.)

The Bible implies an interaction between sun, moon, earth, and probably other solar system components – which would class as stars – to impart intelligence. The same assumption sets science free from a non-observable hypothesis – darwinistic Evolution. Conventional electronics scarcely qualifies as the physical process behind the communications medium. Something similar to superconduction brings a realistic communications provider closer to science’s grasp.

The assumption of superconduction or a related phenomenon may unify and clarify our understanding of the worlds around us?

On a more immediately practical level, it could perhaps explain the observed magnetic properties of some planets? (It can scarcely miss the mark, being a cosseted theory not easily tested.) To date, superconduction capability is known to be governed by: a) Composition. Both pure elements and various compounds of elements have been found to display the phenomenon. Strategic emplacement of particles of certain foreign substances within the superconductor can influence its performance – for instance, by re-introducing a level of resistance, or by causing the electron-flow to become something other than a straightforward direct current. There is an upper limit to the amount of current a superconductor will transmit, depending on its composition, so that when this limit is reached it reverts to conventional conductor status. (Are there openings here for natural alternating current? Will a conductor rhythmically alternate between two states? ) b) Temperature. No known superconductor exists at anything other than outrageously cold temperatures. Above their critical temperature, they revert to conventional status. c) Pressure. Some substances do require great pressure as well as greatly reduced temperature before they will superconduct. d) The strength of the magnetic field in which the superconductor is situated. As is the case with temperature, so the magnetic field strength to which the substance is subject must be below a certain set level, or it will re-convert.

Other than the fact that some substances do require robust pressurization before becoming superconductors, and the fact that extreme pressurization is in some ways a form of extreme freezing, there is no hard evidence that suggests superconduction at extremes of pressure but not at extremely low temperature. There is no hard evidence to suggest a superconductor might become an electrical supply when subject to regular, minor, gravitational stresses. And there are presumably no superconductors currently being employed as alternating current sources, inducing secondary currents in other circuits.

This theory looks better, the deeper it is buried. (see footnote)

It does provide a theoretical stabilizing anchor for the self-magnetizing dynamo model, if it is assumed that there is a preferred region for attainment of this effect within the earth. Perhaps the most likely spot would be at or near the center? No matter how many times the superconduction-type capability is quenched, it always revives, and the earth’s field rebuilds, with this zone as a sort of seed, or anchor. The total field rebuilds perhaps through alternating current induction of electrical flow in regions around the special zone, and through the abovementioned dynamo effect.

Perhaps it could also explain reversals. In those times of geologic history when reversals were rare or absent, the compositional features of deeper zones of the earth were unfavorable to induction of secondary circuits in the opposite sense of the clock to the primary. ( A circuit carrying alternating current, when placed side-by-side with a loop of conducting material, induces a current in the second loop, in the opposite sense of the clock to its own flow. In the earth this would require a configuration to somehow produce rapid current fluctuation, which induces current in circuits insulated and apart from the fluctuating circuit.) During those periods of magnetic quiescence, secondary induction in the opposite sense of rotation did not occur, so the status quo was preserved. During periods when reversals occur – we are in one now – subduction of various materials into the core facilitates electrical induction in various detached circuits, in the opposite sense of the clock. Immediately such opposing induction occurs, it begins to counter the magnetic output of the primaries, causing the overall field to gradually decline. If the “opposition” builds sufficiently, it could conceivably partly or completely quench the central superconductor by increasing the magnetic field in which it lies, thus heralding a possible reversal. If the central magnet lost sufficient power, reversal would proceed, the counterrotating “opposition” – with opposite poles – becoming dominant. Following this “usurpation”, in a true-to-life scenario the “usurpers” compete with each other until the strongest gains favored central position, eliminates some or all of its erstwhile compatriots, and the reversed field rebuilds. The process may then recur.

For an electric coil to act as an electromagnet, it needs conducting material inside it, from which it is insulated. This probably renders this proposal impossible, and it is presented here merely as thought-food. Let us hypothesize the existence of a zone with superconductor-type characteristics at or near the center of the earth. This zone may wax, wane, change shape, and fragment, because temperature, pressure, composition, and magnetic environment all potentially affect superconductor status and all potentially change from time-to-time and from place-to-place inside planets. Assume, however, a preferred zone for this phenomenon at the earth’s centre. Electric circuits should naturally tend to exist within it.

This, in combination with other processes such as planetary dynamo effect, might induce other circuits in mostly conventionally-conducting regions inside planets.

During eras of non-reversal, the circuits are of a strength or disposition that does not lead to quelling of the central circuits.

During eras of reversal, some factor – perhaps composition or configuration of parts of the interior of the planet – is altered, leading to the generation of secondary currents that are overwhelmingly non-complementary to the central coils.

Even though reversed, the overall field retains some symmetry, ie. it remains a dipole field, having distinct poles.

Perhaps through localized fluctuations of magnetic field strength as the counterrotating coils build, the “superconducting” zone is reduced, deformed, even partly “cannibalized” by the “competition”. Overall strength of the planet’s field declines, as the opposites compete. At the point when the “competition” becomes dominant – perhaps coincident with a sudden partial collapse of the central “superconducting” capacity – the overall field begins reversal. If the preferred central zone does not quickly “resuscitate”, reversal proceeds.

The secondary currents in the outer coils are moving in a clockwise direction, whilst the currents in the three central coils are moving in an anti-clockwise direction.

The overall field symmetry (dipole field) then decreases as the strongest circuit “cannibalizes” its way towards the centre of the preferred zone and towards dominance. At the moment when the original central circuit dies, dipole field zeroes.

If the evidence has been correctly interpreted, this is the most common sequence of magnetic pole reversal, the whole cycle of waxing and waning taking anything from one or two tens of thousands of years to millions of years. The time from actual onset of reversal to rebuild is unknown. It could be protracted in terms of human lifespans, but is certainly instantaneous in terms of geologic time. From reversal through to rebuild, the cohesion, centredness, or dipole component of the field declines. Presumably this happens as the “usurpers” compete for favored central position. Back-stabbing power politics at 6,000 kilometers!

When the dipole component finally falls near zero – usually some time after reversal – the earth at that moment does not have a single, clearly defined, magnetic pole.

Readings suggest next zero dipole 3,500 – 4,000AD, with onset of attempted reversal possible any time. These are possibilities, not facts.

This would be totally academic if the Bible didn’t contain an underlined description of a future event suggestive of magnetic field activity. Whether or not it could instead or besides be describing a meteorite impact or a nuclear war, or nothing at all, we leave to bible scholars. The obvious takes precedence.

The good news: if it is indeed entirely a natural event, it is better to fall into the hands of God than into the hands of Man. The bad news: in an ultimate sense, there is never any bad news for those who are one with the divine Purposes.

The biblical meaning will remain a subject of discussion. Two questions will surface quickly: the question of possible forewarning; and the question of which elements of the recorded descriptions apply specifically to this event. A collage of non-synchronous but analogous events are here being described collectively by Christ. Usage of terms such as “signs in the sun and moon”, and “the powers of heaven shall be shaken”, in association with a period of stern difficulties immediately followed by startling atmospheric phenomena, point to one of these predicted events being global — perhaps an excursion, or even full reversal, of the magnetic poles? Will then the “appearing of the sign of the Son of Man in heaven” be nothing less than startling visual confirmation of the veracity of his prophetic words?

Two questions we may lay to rest immediately: if it does happen, no human being will know the exact time (it could be far distant), and only the alert will be ready. Again – if we read aright –the good news is, a remnant at least of mankind will survive, those days having been shortened, or rendered survivable, because of the electMatt. 24:21,22; Mark 13:19,20, etc.. These scriptures speak of trouble, but they also suggest peace in the midst of trouble. “When these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads …… .” This event has a necessary purpose — the implementation of divine Justice, and personal rejuvenation through cutting away human decadence – the flesh.

Whether this is a correct reading of the accounts or no, one conclusion is inevitable, requiring no technical understanding. Western Civilization stands in grave danger – not from physical causes, but from within. The human spirit and soul – Jerusalem – is all but compassed with armies. In areas such as child-rearing, education, employment, even day-to-day living, the abomination that makes desolate is standing in places where it ought not to be. As Darwinism itself testifies, nothing is more desolating to a species than failure to successfully meet the environment and replicate itself. Failure to reproduce a viable upcoming generation is completely desolating. We appear to be in danger of creeping societal dysfunction. Do we have the strength and determination to recover? Have we lost our bearings in a torpid sea of slumber? Are we wandering near the edge in a corporate, conformist mist of false security?

There is one hope – the only hope there has ever been.

John Bradford, English martyr, whenever confronted by the miserable sight of a vile enemy of society en route to the gallows, was wont to declare in a mixture of disbelief and wonder, “There, but for the grace of God, goes John Bradford”. This was no academic or intellectual statement, but the verbal expression of an inexpressibly overpowering, personal, fact. Bradford was that man. Grace! He knew.

If we look at Western Civilization, either the majority of those who went before, who pioneered and built, were deceived, unjust, intellectual fools, moral failures, and anti-societal criminals of evil religious beliefs – or we are. This is speaking of the apparent majority consensus. Either they were deceived, or we are deceived. The inescapable witness of history. Wrong cannot become right and right is not wrong. Were our ancestors on the whole, unlawful, child-abusers, employee-abusers, suppressors of women, racists, moral imbeciles, and all the rest of it – or are we? Who is going to succeed –they or we? Our own fathers’ practices condemn either them or us. Who will be vindicated?

The sun stood still, and giant hailstones fell on the perverted devotees of Baal, Ashtoreth, and that cabal – God’s enemies and therefore Joshua’s enemies. Possibly a burning sulfurous comet annihilated the twin cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. These peoples were tolerant towards the worshippers of God. They did indulge in the occasional sacrifice of children to demons, lacked morality, and had a cold heart when it came to compassion. How much out of place would they feel in the self-first-and-Devil-take-the-hindermost atmosphere of some segments of modern Australia? Collectivized extortion, leading to distortion of the economy, of other people’s livelihood, and ultimately of the environment, for a few pieces of filthy lucre? Would they feel quite at home on our beaches, watching our television, reading our literature, and attending some of our sporting events? Sacrificing children to demons – are they the people providing and permitting some of the things currently accessible to children in Australia? Are theirs those policies of breeding and rearing children, that are destructive madness?

As a broadest generalization, either the policy-making founders of Western Civilization were deficient, or we are. Either they failed to run a society successfully, or in some measure we are going to fail to run society successfully. It is impossible to escape history. An infant understands these matters, but not those who have lost sensitivity.


Take with you words, and turn to the Lord; say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously … . Hosea 14:2.

Superficialities can’t help us.

Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. [Protestations of conformity to religious requirements.] But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. Luke 13: 23-27. They that forsake the Law [deliberately and purposefully cease to obey God’s words in any detail] praise the wicked [become aiders and abettors of every harmful act man commits]. Pro.28:4.

The wicked shall be turned into Hell, and all the nations that forget God. Ps. 9:17.

How should we live in the light of these things?

There is a classic example of one, average, “run of the mill” group of people who by taking simple, practical steps, maintained some integrity in the midst of a society in a downwards spiral. The account is Jeremiah Chapter 35. Finer details aside, it may be noted that these so-called Rechabites were family, cared nothing for majority opinion, and took personally humbling, practical steps to secure a lifestyle that gave them and their descendants a chance. In many ways, they conformed to the teachings of the coming Christ. And he said unto his disciples, Therefore, I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them; how much more are ye better than the fowls? And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest? Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothe the grass, which is today in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek not what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide for yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.Luke 12:22-34.

Without faith it is impossible to please God; and without a lifestyle of exercising faith – which itself is a gift of grace – human society dies.

The words of Christ in the Gospels concerning future events are concentrated in Matthew 24Mark 13Luke 17, and Luke 21. As is often the case with such prophesies, a class of event and a series of events are being alluded to as though they were one. They are. The fall of Jerusalem was the end of a world: the passing of every human being is the end of a world: the last Day will be the end of the world. Each generation experiences the end of an era in some way: Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all [all that is appointed for it] be fulfilled. Luke 21: 32; Matt. 24: 34; Mark 13:30. Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at cockcrowing, or in the morning. Mark 13:35. Thus, there will be overlap in the description of events, whilst there will also be specific descriptions obviously relating to various major events.

Hence, we see the forewarning, but when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judea flee to the mountains, as primarily for that specific event. However, almost certainly, it will have a secondary application to other times and other events. Jerusalem has multiple meanings. Mountains (of refuge) does not have to mean a topographic feature. An abomination of desolation can be a physical symbol, through to degrading, humanity-destroying legislation. It could even take on an analogous meaning in a completely different context. As an illustration, since God is light, and in him is no darkness at all, an apparent defect in light reaching the earth could be read as an abomination of desolation. In one, figurative, sense, the light of the world appearing to be corrupt would be a lie and a desolating loss of hope. Some sort of a defect in light is mentioned throughout the Scriptures: for example, The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come. Joel 2:31. As we have deduced, there is more than one day of the Lord, each one being in some way a pattern of the final. Forewarning on a purely physical level is therefore not impossible. But exactly what physical danger is to be met? Unless science can put the finger on something definite, there is no point in a warning – assuming a warning is to be given. A warning in the absence of knowledge of the danger would be worse than no warning.

Can we pin down the underlying cause of the projected tribulation?

But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars of heaven [the biblical meaning is of lights in the sky] shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken. Mark 13: 24. So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors. Mark 13: 29. Atmospheric phenomena, preceded by a period of difficulty – that tribulation – will happen before this corporation is terminated. And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. … …. So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. Luke 21: 25,26,31. Remember, the term,”nigh at hand”, is to be read in an historic context, not in the context of having something happen before tea, or even in a lifetime.

These descriptions are larger than the fall of Jerusalem. They are not describing a final event. The fact that atmospheric disturbances are being described in terms of the powers operative in the solar system, especially the recourse to the language of Genesis 1– signs in the sun and moon – favors a magnetic field event. The expression in Gen.1:14; Let them be for signs, is a direct reference to signalling and information transfer – in which planetary magnetism presumably plays a part.. The powers of heaven being shaken implies observable disturbance of the forces operative in and about the atmosphere, between all of which science has now shown a link to exist. The meaning of, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon not give her light, could be an effect that modifies incoming solar radiation?

If it is to be a magnetic field event, and if the expression, “the sea and the waves roaring”, has any non-allegorical meaning, then our postulated link between magnetic fields and weather patterns gains credibility. Other physical outcomes, such as unusual earthquake activity, might likewise be implicated: this is a long shot indeed and under no circumstances should be heeded, unless technical research confirms it.

Diligent study of the geologic record does not lead to the conclusion that trauma accompanies magnetic reversal. There is of course a limit to the detail recorded in rocks. The Bible appears to provide some leads and we may be assured that if divine Revelation wishes Mankind to know something, the message will become perfectly clear, when appropriate.

Jacobs presents a balanced and comprehensive treatise that is partly understandable to laymen. No unequivocal evidence exists of a link between past magnetic events and natural phenomena such as wild weather or earthquakes. Nevertheless there is a mystifying link between magnetism and climate, and between magnetism and species extinction. Jacobs presents one of the most believable extinction theories in scientific literature — implicating basic information transfer and the earth’s magnetic field!

This paper was first published 2002. As may be deduced from the further reading listed above, there have been advances which tend to confirm its content. E.g. iron superconducts under pressure: according to existing measurement techniques the temperature at which the metalloid, boron, superconducts, rises in proportion to pressure: superconductors separated by a thin insulating layer are being used to produce alternating current: the evidence adduced by Ryskin (2009) suggests that a conventional dynamo is not the engine behind our magnetic field. The deep zones of the earth cannot be thought of entirely in everday terms.
